The mission of MyFi Dallas is to empower and mobilize the Dallas community through a coordinated effort to actively improve kids' health and wellbeing through physical fitness and healthy eating habits. To that end, MyFi aims to do the following:
- Improve the physical and mental health of children across our city
- Use prevention to reduce the negative economic impact of healthcare
- Create sustainable opportunities for families to learn new ways to live a healthy life
MyFi accomplishes this by uniting existent Dallas youth programs with educators, business leaders, healthcare providers, community and religious leaders and other stakeholders in coordinated health and fitness initiatives across the city.
Emboldened by Dallas’ can-do spirit, the MyFi program creates a culture of healthy living, in which children and their parents are physically active, eating right and feeling better every day.
Our Action Plan
MyFi Dallas implements its five core components—Fitness, Nutrition, Measurement, Family Involvement and Rewards—through a series of assessments, individual goal setting, community opportunities and public recognition and rewards programs.
Enrollees commit to minimum of 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity each day. Participants are then assessed with the FITNESSGRAM®, a physical fitness assessment tool developed by Dallas-based The Cooper Institute. Since 2011, thousands of children have enrolled in MyFi Dallas. After five years, the data have begun to show steady improvements in fitness performance, as well as a reduction in screen time.
As part of MyFi's mission to create opportunities to learn sustainable healthy habits, MyFi began offering year-round seasonal mini-clinics, including an 8-week MyFi Summer Camp Experience for more than 3,000 youth. In addition, regular community-wide events are held to celebrate Dallas youth and their families who have achieved their health and fitness goals, and to motivate others to Get Moving with MyFi!
